Skinflats & Kinneil: Sat 20th February 2010

From Stirling take the A905 Airth road and go straight across at the large new roundabouts by the Kincardine/Clackmannan road heading for Skinflats. At the centre of Skinflats village turn left into Newton Avenue to park along by the houses, before the road narrows. We plan to meet here at 10:30am. The start of the walk to the pools is 1/2 mile further but parking is limited to a few cars so we shall take as few cars as possible to this point.

At Skinflats we will take the direct path to the pools – this path can be somewhat uneven so boots are required especially by the pools where cattle may make the going muddy. The round walk is no more than 1 mile.

Around midday we shall transfer to Kinneil, reached by going into Grangemouth Centre (A905/A904) and when the huge storage tanks are reached turning left for Bo'ness. After 1/2 mile turn sharp left for Kinneil, by the Water Treatment signs. Go to the end of this narrow road and park to the right on a large open grassy area. We aim to reach here around 13:00-13:30 and have our lunch by the cars. High tide here is not until 18:00 but it comes in very early at this point so we shall expect to see a difference around 15:00. A walk along the raised embankment (easy track) to the large pool should produce something of note.

Scopes are really a necessity as are walking boots. There are no toilets at either site but a midday visit to Grangemouth Town Centre could be made.
